Onions stopped my chilblains
by: Chilled

Had heard of this tip, but it wasn't until I developed chilblains that i went hunting, AND yay hooteray I fixed those chilblains with onions.
Rubbed a cut onion (white worked for me but any sort most likely would work), on sore chilblains and in no time my itchy, sore lumps disappeared. The pain and itch stopped almost at once, and the redness and lumps went down over a few days. Not chilled any more!

Onions in sox
by: Anonymous

Well,it's day 3 of a heavy cold I noticed the first symptoms on Friday. Blocked nose, watery eyes, dry cough and joints aching. I just cut up an onion and placed against the soles of my feet. We'll see what happens.

Onions rule.
by: Brian

An old blog has closed off,
And a new one in view,
But still the onion thread is there to pursue,
So send all your comments and state all your claims,
Of your successes or failures,
With colds and chilblains.
But for me my successes have been a godsend for me...
I just cut up the onions,
And no colds for me...
...............................
Merry Christmas to everyone blogging on here.

Love onions. :)
by: Tiffaney

I know that the onion doesn't really "absorb" the illness, but it sure helps. I tell so many to do this, and they rarely do, but when they do, they tell me how well it worked. I need to start keeping onions out all the time. I don't do it often, but definitely pull them out at first signs of an illness for me and hubby. Kids are amazingly healthy and rarely have gotten sick, only a couple times they had sniffly noses while we were sick with other things. I attribute their health to other things as they won't touch onions, but they don't mind onions in their rooms if I put them there.

Onions cured my viral bronchitis
by: Cherie

My son had viral bronchitis for the past week and have had sleepless nights. I successfully contracted some germs from him a few days after. Tried the onion in socks on both of us while we slept, my fever miraculously cured and my son seemed much cheerier than usual! Tried it again last night, 3 days since I was sick and today am back at work with only slight sniffles but it certainly is better than being stuck in bed! I am much more relieved that my son is now almost back to 100% health! Try it dearest skeptics, Im sure it will do you more good than any harm at all.

All the way from Brunei.
ps. enjoyed reading everyone's comments since 2011? :D

Home Remedies For Cold, Flu (Bronchitis)
by: Abrar Ahmad

The best way to avoid contracting influenza or cold is to keep yourself warm and drink plenty of fluids. Liquids like tea can also reduce mucus thickness. You can also use a humidifier at home as warm moist air causes the bronchial tubes to relax and it loosens up mucus, however, care should be taken to clean out the humidifier regularly to avoid bacteria or fungi propagating in it. If managing a humidifier is problematic, breathing in steam from boiling water can soften mucus while adding a few drops of eucalyptus oil has enhance the effect of steam therapy as the oil contains antibacterial properties which can heal burning sensation in the throat. Still, there are some other natural foods for bronchitis treatment like: honey has antiviral as well as antibacterial properties and eating a tablespoon daily be useful to treat bronchitis as it helps soothes the throat and build an strong immune system. Oregano oil and salt water tends to lessen throat soreness and a few drops of oregano oil or gargling salt water are enough to cure severe or uneasy breathing. Garlic and turmeric has antiviral and antibiotic properties while turmeric have anti-inflammatory properties. Add one teaspoon of turmeric powder or some freshly chopped garlic cloves in a glass of milk, boil it for some time and drink. Orange and lemon juice are rich in vitamin C and have antioxidant properties. Drink lots of orange juice to build immune properties in the body. Or boil a cup of water and add a few drops of lemon juice in it and drink to relieve throat soreness. Ginger has immune building and anti-inflammatory properties. Add half a teaspoon of ground ginger and cinnamon to hot water and drink the mixture. In addition drink plenty of water as it is necessary to keep your body hydrated during cold and influenza bouts to avoid your throat from getting dry, which can make coughing painful.

It seems to work?
by: Anonymous

At the moment I have all my cats down with a respiratory infection, all coughing, sneezing and dribbling.. The antibiotics are working but not dramatically. This morning I put a peeled onion, cut in half, in the room with them and the coughing and sneezing has died down to almost nothing! They have slept quite peacefully for most of the day. Frankly I am amazed. I am going to try the onions-in-the-socks thing on myself. Scientists don't know everything!

Yep...onions in a bowl
by: Anonymous

So - last night as an experiment (and to prove to the fiance that I may not be crazy) - I placed a cut onion on each side of our bed because I was coughing and catching the cold that he was suffering from. I immediately stopped coughing and slept well. But, another funny thing has happened. We have an older cocker spaniel (she's so damned cute...lol) who has had some respiratory issues and sounds like a piglet all the time when she breathes and her snores keep the whole house awake sometimes. Yes, we have taken her to the vet! Anyway, last night....no snoring and she is sleeping quietly and soundly as I type this! YAY onions!
